Camping Day III

Sorry for not posting this post sooner. I truly forgot about it. Why would I forget? I’m not busy, am I? If cleaning a house, trying to keep up with paperwork (without Daddy at home), spending 3 days doing Driver’s Ed, and doing a bunch of other ‘summer’ things isn’t called busy, then I’m not busy. 🙂

On Sunday, after checking out of the sites, we went to Sparwood to see the World’s biggest Dump Truck. Here is our cousin’s wife, Mama, and Groszmama.

Camping Day II

Elfrieda

On Saturday, we decided to hike the 6+ kilometers to Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. Most of us participated and we had a lot of fun. (Besides soreness afterwards.) 🙂 The boys were always up ahead which is why you can’t see them on this picture.

At one point, the trail ran alongside the highway. The children enjoyed coaxing waves (and even a few honks) from the drivers. 🙂DSCF0689

Some beautiful flowers at the Interpretative Centre. The ones that stayed at the campsite came in the vehicles and then we spent some time at the Centre.

Camping Day I

Our first view of the campsite. Mama’s sister and her family was coming to visit us from Oklahoma and they wanted to go Camping. They even brought Groszmama along. Even though she is going on eighty-three, she wanted to come camping. Since we needed a cabin for her, we decided to go have a look at a campsite before we actually rented it. The one we had in mind didn’t suit us so we went hunting some more. We came upon Lost Lemon Campground and we were immediately impressed. (Visit lostlemon.com for more pictures and details.) Although it is on the outskirts of town, we still chose to reserve it.

Our second view of the river. Alberta has had lots of flooding. Although we are not affected by it, please pray for the residents of cities like Calgary, High River, and Medicine Hat. Many homes have been destroyed.

At the Park with Cousins

On Monday evening, we had a barbecue at the park with our extended Unger family.

Bianca was up to photographing and she had a bunch of ‘posers’ to choose from.

She did a wonderful job so I’ll share some with you.

Happy Birthday to our littlest brother.

You are finally 5 years old.

May God Bless your next year with happiness, fulfillment, and learning.

You are our sweetheart, the child with the innocent comments that end up being so funny. (Thank you for letting us laugh at you:-) )

You bring sunshine into our lives and happiness to the lives of those around you.

Photography Part II

Dear Friends,

I do hope that you noticed my post on photography last week. If you didn’t, please check it out. I’m still open for advice. However, I received some very helpful advice from a dear friend. Linda took our family pictures and she does an excellent job. I thought I’d share her advice with you all. (I’ve always been sorry when I went against Linda’s photography advice. I’m very glad that she still gives it to me. 🙂 )

Hi Yesenia; Yes I did notice your post and I was thinking I’d like to know all your questions too. I have not been into photography much of late as this momma has met her waterloo. Time is prime real estate these days! I did save up for a nikon 18-200 mm lens and I love it. If you have that kind of moolah I’d recommend it, but it is quite pricey. I agree with everything that other person said, if that means anything, but I think if I were to choose between Canon and Nikon I’d go with Canon next time, simply because they have a wider selection of lower-end accessories and they are more amateur user-friendly. Nikon caters more to professionals. And believe you me, the road to professionalism is long. I would not go with used camera equipment unless you personally know and trust the former owner. It is too easy to get faulty equipment that has been mishandled or is a ‘lemon’. I think your best bet is probably a Canon Rebel. You choose which one based on your budget but you can’t really go wrong with any of them.

A camera bag is based on preferance, if you buy a camera kit you can probably get them to throw it in on the deal. We did;) I still need to get a tripod so I can’t really say, but I would get one with both vertical and horizontal swivels. My brother Mark picked one up at Value Village, I think you should be able to find one on Kijiji. Reviews are very helpful read up on any product you are interested in.
Finally, if you want to really go somewhere with your photography, look into photoshop. It is a really in depth program that will take all your spare time to figure out, but it is well worth the effort from what I have observed. It puts the edge to your photography that makes it shine above the rest. All serious photographers now a days photoshop their work. The program goes for around $100 but I think they had it on 50% off at Christmas time so watch for sales.

Hope this helps,
Linda

I’ll post the other comment I received just in case it was missed.

Photography is a wonderful hobby! Congrats on wanting to dive in further. You haven’t mentioned your budget for a camera, so I thought I would make a couple suggestions based on my experience. You can’t go wrong with either Canon or Nikon, especially as a novice. I shoot Canon. I am assuming you want to purchase a DSLR? That’s your best route if you’re getting serious about photography. I bought a Canon Rebel T2i as my first DSLR about 2.5 years ago, and I’m still using it today. I highly recommend the Rebel line as a way to get started. You can find really good deals online on the T4i right now, and that will be plenty of camera for you for quite some time. My best advice, invest in high quality lenses first and foremost. Cameras become outdated pretty quickly, but a fine lens will last you 10 years and produce great results! If you want to just get your feet wet and save money, try KEH.com for used equipment that has been inspected and graded. Great way to go. In general I buy most of my gear from Amazon or B&H photo. And read the product reviews there before you buy. Good luck
