I would love to be all caught up in personal photos and share those with you all, but sadly that is not the case right now. So here are some photos from last year’s December when my aunts got together for a baking day.

How’s that for a long title? I’m hoping my wordiness will make up for my lack of photos😁 I don’t have that many to share since this post covers barely over a month, in which time I was really too busy to take photos. Originally I had the planned to include the photos from January, February, and March as well to cover the official winter months. But it made for such a complicated title and all, that I decided to end this series by year and not season. So here are the few I do have:)) Included are photos of my new lens, cute little people with whom I have the pleasure of being related to, Christmas lights, a headboard filled with the things I love most, too many selfies, and other photos that are meaningless to you but meaningful to me so I post them anyways.
Client photography has been pushed to the bottom of my list this winter as I wanted to focus on school. At least that was my intention. But no matter how hard I try, I always pull out my camera again for my friends. Taking photos of them in great conditions is one of my favourite things to do. So here are several photos from two spontaneous photo sessions, and I cannot admire these girls enough for braving the cold with me.
First off, my sweet friend Margaritha

A few months later my cousin Abigail came over and we kept up our tradition of snapping several photos whenever she’s over (light permitting, that is). Two of her friends joined for a few of them, which is always a bonus😀

If a photo-bombing cousin always poses this nicely, I’ll welcome such interruptions any time!😉😁
Usually it’s me dragging my siblings and camera out in all kinds of weather to snag several photos. But this day it was switched. I had somehow promised to take photos of Elfrieda exactly during the coldest week we had all winter. It was defiantly gorgeous outside, but the cold held me back. Elfrieda didn’t though, trust her to keep you true to your word! So I grudgingly went outside, doubting that we would get much. Thankfully, I was quite mistaken! We ended up having a wonderful time, and I was thrilled with the results. Elfrieda, thank you for being persistent, without you we most certainly would not have these photos!

Last February I did a post of black and white photos, and really liked it. It was such an inspiration to capture photos so strong in emotion and meaning that they needed no colour. I haven’t taken as many photos recently and when I was going through these I realized how much I have slacked off in all areas of photography. Hopefully I can get the game going again after I graduate but for now here is this year’s mini-version of last year’s post.

As I look over my previous posts I see that frost is a recurring theme. They make up a lot of my winter photos, but instead of changing things up I think I’ll keep up the tradition 😁 So here again are some photos, mostly detail ones due to my love of low apertures.

You may be expecting the last post in the By my Phone series, but since winter is not officially over I’ll push it up and post of others things meanwhile.
One of the most exciting events of last year (photography wise) was buying a new lens. Originally I was not interested in prime lenses. I love my zoom as it allows me to take photos subtlety, hiding behind the lens. But after some research I was convinced and bought the Canon 50mm 1.4. It’s a great starter lens and to anyone in doubt I would say “Go for it!” I was terribly excited and somehow it seemed to be such a gift from God. It was definitely a learning curve though, and still is. While it handles the low f-stop quite well I would say its sweet spot is f-2.8. It provided me with a much-needed challenge and the inspiration to take photos once more. So here’s a sampling of photos, and please excuse the blurry ones; I am quite inexperienced with low apertures.
